Course objectives:

The aim of the course is to teach students how to communicate effectively in a legal working environment and extend their language competences to match CEF level B1/B2. The course provides knowledge of specialist terminology and a legal document composition.

Requirements on student
|
Credit requirements:
1. compulsory attendance
2. submission of all assigned tasks within the specified deadline
3. passing the partial and final test at least 75%
Exam requirements:
1. Written part: translation, interpretation of terms, reading comprehension
2. Oral part: introduction of the student, presentation of the bachelor's or master's thesis, interview on the assigned topic discussed in the course.

Knowledge - students are expected to possess the following knowledge before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
use knowledge corresponding to the subject UJP/NP1 |
identify the basic advanced terminology necessary to find important information in an authentic written and spoken text |
name the basic features of a legal text and features of the legal style |
identify the means used in discussions |
identify the passive voice in written and spoken texts |
identify the forms of the subjunctive |
identify the forms of the past tenses |
Skills - students are expected to possess the following skills before the course commences to finish it successfully: |
write a simple legal text |
summarize the content of a legal document |
analyse and formulate opinions on a law topic |
work with scientific literature and translate simple legal documents |
use knowledge corresponding to the subject UJP/NP1 |
practically use the vocabulary of public and private law in spoken and written texts |
describe the work of a lawyer, notary, public prosecutor and judge |
